Common Hornbeam
A large pyramidal and then later rounded tree, to 20-25m tall x 15m wide, with smooth grey, fluted bark and ribbed mid-green leaves. Catkins appear in April/May, followed by hop-like clusters of fruits in autumn. Good laternative to beech on heavier, wetter soils.
